As a stop-off on our long drive to Brod this week we were able to spend a night at ‘the other Bethanie’ - a newly formed missional community in Karlsruhe, Germany. Formerly used as a conference facility by the Catholic ‘Schonstatt’ movement, Bethanien has now been handed over to a group associated with a creative collective called ‘Mateno’ headed up by Mark and Nadina Reichman. Mateno (http://www.mateno.org/) are the publishers of the uber-artful ‘Froh’ magazine (http://frohmagazin.de/). Mark and Nadine are an excellent couple making some very brave and insightful decisions about the future shape of Christian mission in Europe. Bethanien is still in formation as a community - watch this space for the flowering of an innovative and ground-breaking project.

This was an odd piece of grafitti I discovered recently - odd because it was in Amstersdam and I had just driven their from France.. Maybe a measure of the ‘wide and long’ reach of French anarchism?
